Vaccin....nation: Another Division On The Cusp

How do you recognize a loaded statement or for that matter loaded data?

If you read the paragraph at the end of this article, you will just have done so. If this one from a US News story about the top 10 things that kill Americans were any more loaded it would be a home protection12 gauge shotgun in a lifetime NRA member’s bedroom.

First thing to note is the linking of pneumonia and influenza. Flu and pneumonia are ranked in the 2017-18 flu outbreak as the story quotes CDC officials saying “nearly 80,000 deaths were associated with influenza.....” that’s some scary reportage. That flu bug hangs out with some bad associates.

The CDC then again estimates the outbreak occurred at a time when it estimates only 37.1 percent of folks got vaccinated. For all it’s estimating that 37.1 figure seems pretty specific. It also implies the other 62.9 percent who didn’t want, forgot, couldn’t afford or just opted out must be pretty silly, dumb, defiant or caviler

If we were wagering, defiant is the term DC bureaucrats will circle their wagons on. This is what we call the Get Clause: get vaccinated or get fined, jailed or get both.

This isn’t fake news. This most probably deserves a phi beta kappa spot in the annals of blatant big pharmaceutical propaganda. Some might add deceitful scare mongering. At the next “big” outbreak they might even offer free lifetime influenza vaccinations to anyone who turns in his or hers Dirty Harry long barreled 44 magnum.

During a recent cross country flight on one our nation’s overly luxurious, overly generous, overly clean and overly comfortable airlines we sat cramped across the narrow aisle from an elderly gentleman when the topic of flu season came up.

When he was asked about his plans to get vaccinated, he sternly told the occupant next to him that the last time he got vaccinated for the flu Teddy Roosevelt was roaming the grounds on Pennsylvania Avenue.

To us he didn’t appear to be that old, but we guess, like many things in life, age and looks are about a difference of opinion. Getting a flu shot, however, apparently isn’t. To quote two of the FDA’s favorite terms when it comes to pharmaceuticals—safety and efficaciousness—apparently that’s not open to a difference of opinion either. Are vaccinations safe and are they efficacious?

Note, too, they have even dedicated a season to it. We use to celebrate Christmas but of late it’s become more about Happy Holidays. If you’re in the drug industry or a member of the government cartel it’s influenza season. Talk about locking in repeat customers.
